Stevens Point Paper Mill, Wisconsin
The Stevens Point Paper Mill is one of a few dozen open and closed paper mills along the Wisconsin River. It began operations in 1919, and is one of the largest “specialty paper” mills in the country. It employs around 240 people, and has a capacity of 200,000 tons of paper per year. It makes packaging for food pouches, bags, wrapping papers, label papers for jars and cans, high-gloss metalized paper, and papers used for bar code labels and receipts. In 2020 it was sold by its former owner, Verso, along with a mill in Jay, Maine, to Pixelle Specialty Solutions, of Pennsylvania.
