Textron Weapon & Sensor Systems, is headquartered at this production location in suburban Boston. It is part of the larger Textron Systems division, which focuses on defense-related activities. Smart bombs (as well as the not so smart CBU-105, the last cluster bomb to be manufactured in the US, until it was discontinued in 2017), surveillance systems, re-entry systems and vehicles, and much more, are designed and manufactured here. The parent company, Textron, started out as a Boston textile company, and is now a diversified aerospace and technology firm with around 35,000 employees. Textron also owns Bell Helicopters and Cessna Aircraft among other well known aviation brands, and is now headquartered in Providence, RI.
