Tyson Foods Headquarters, Arkansas
Tyson Foods is the largest USA-based meat company with around 24% market share, after it purchased International Beef Packers in 2001. It started out as a chicken company, and continues to dominate that industry as well, controlling around 21% of the market. Annual consumption of chicken is now around 89 pounds per capita, with poultry currently more popular than beef among U.S. consumers. Around 8.6 billion chickens are slaughtered in the country annually, producing roughly 53 billion pounds of meat. Top-producing states with more than a billion each, are Georgia, Arkansas, and Alabama. The company’s headquarters in northwest Arkansas is in a regional center for chicken production in the USA, and is less than 20 miles from Walmart’s world headquarters, possibly by coincidence. There is a Tyson chicken plant in Springdale too, one of 57 the company operates in the USA.
