United Taconite Forbes Plant, Minnesota

This plant process material from the Eveleth Pit, nine miles north, also operated by United Taconite. The plant is one of a half dozen or so active taconite operations in the Iron Range. From here the taconite goes by rail to Duluth, where it is loaded onto specialty ships known as Lakers, which take the taconite to steel plants, mostly the big three on southern shore of lake Michigan.
