US Forest Service Headquarters, District of Columbia
The US Forest Service is part of the US Department of Agriculture, and one of the nation's largest land owners, with 193 million acres, which is about 25% of federal land, in 154 official national forests and 20 national grasslands. The service divides the nation into nine regions, and is headquartered in the Sidney R. Yates building at 1400 Independence Avenue in Washington, DC, on the mall, which it moved into in 1990. This was a former Bureau of Engraving and Printing building, next to the Department of Agriculture’s Headquarters, and the Holocaust Memorial Museum.
