The US Department of Agriculture is the federal agency that manages and enforces the laws and regulation related to farming, forestry, and food. It has an annual budget of more than $150 billion, much of which goes to subsidize the federal food stamp program, providing food to the poor. It also subsidizes farmers, and manages basic food supply and production. At also manages the US Forest Service, which covers 193 million acres of the US, about 25% of federal land.
