Van Nuys General Mail Facility Postal Carrier Training Site, California

This US Postal Distribution Center, called the Van Nuys General Mail Facility (though located near Valencia) is the principal mail sorting facility for northern Los Angeles County, processing on average 6 million pieces of mail each day for the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley and Mojave Desert Region. 1,500 employees work 24 hours a day at nearly 2 miles of conveyors that move mail through the 750,000 square foot building. Behind the processing plant, adjacent to the employee parking lot and vehicle maintenance facilities, is a model mail carrier practice course complete with a railroad crossing, traffic lights, high curbs, and hard-to-reach mailboxes.
