Verizon Network and Data Site Tampa, Florida

One of two “super head-end” facilities for Verizon’s FiOS network is located in Tampa, Florida. The facility is an earth station, downloading content with a couple dozen satellite dishes, and integrating it with fiber-based content. From here (and the second, redundant facility in Bloomington, IL), the content streams to regional video hubs around the country. The system is meant to compete with cable companies like Spectrum, AT&T, and Comcast, and with more than four million subscribers, it is the currently the fourth largest “cable” company in the country.
