Vigor Shipyards, Washington

This shipyard in Seattle's port has been a major presence since 1916. The 46-acre yard, located on Harbor Island ("the largest man-made island in America") has three large drydocks, including one of the largest floating drydocks on the West Coast, which can accommodate ships up to 800 feet long. Th yard was a major shipbuilder, building over 100 ships at West Seattle in World War Two, but now does mostly overhaul and repairs on commercial and military ships. The U.S. Navy has awarded the yard operators a number of contracts over the years to manintain and repair nuclear-powered Nimitz class aircraft carriers. In 2011,  Portland-based Vigor Industrial LLC purchased the yard from Todd Shiplands at a cost of $130 million, renaming it Vigor Shipyards Inc.
