Vista House Columbia Gorge, Oregon

This Art Nouveau-style octagonal stone structure, on top of a 700 foot-tall cliff in the Columbia River Gorge, opened in 1918 to serve as a public observatory of the landscape around it, and enhance the drama of the landscape it was built to admire. It still does so today, and is owned by the Oregon Department of Transportation.
