W. A. Parish Power Plant, Texas
The W. A. Parish Power Plant is located in Thompsons, Texas, adjacent to Smithers Lake, the source of its cooling water. The dual-fired plant is comprised of gas-fired Units 1 through 4, whose combined output capacity is roughly 1,150MW; plus coal-fired Units 5 through 8, whose combined output capacity is roughly 2,504MW, for a total output capacity of 3,654MW, making Parish the largest single generator of electricity in Texas, as well as being one of the largest such plants in the U.S. Units 5, 6, 7, and 8 became operational in 1977, 1978, 1980, and 1982 respectively. The plant is owned by NRG Energy.
