Warren Technical Center, Michigan

GM’s primary R&D engineering design site, known as the Tech Center, is a 710 acre campus in Warren, north of Detroit, with 38 buildings, and space for as many as 21,000 workers. It was designed by Eero Saarinen, and opened in 1955, when GM was close to being the largest company in the nation. With its rectangular lake, grand modernist architecture, and linear greenways, it has been called “an industrial Versailles.”
