Weyerhaeuser's corporate headquarters is this Skidmore, Owings & Merrill-designed building near Tacoma, built in 1971. The company was founded in Washington with the 900,000 acre purchase of forest land by Frederick Weyerhaeuser over 90 years ago, and is now the largest private landowner in the state, with over 1,570,000 acres. As of 2012, Weyerhaeuser owns or controls more than 6 million acres of timberlands primarily in the U.S., and manages another 13.9 million acres under long-term licenses in Canada. It is likely the largest private landowner in the nation.
