White Mountain Research Center, California

A high altitude and alpine research complex, composed of four facilities, located at different elevations on the peaks of White Mountain. The highest of these stations, the Summit Hut, is a small building at 14,250 feet above sea level and is the highest high-altitude lab in North America. Research is conducted in a variety of disciplines, including archeology, physiology, biology, geology, ecology, and astrophysics. The complex is a unit of the University of California Natural Reserve System, and the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability.
