Woodland Pulp and Paper Mill, Maine

Woodland Pulp LLC operates the Woodland Pulp Mill, in the town of Baileyville. The plant is on the US side of the St. Croix River, which forms the border with Canada. It opened in 1906, providing newspaper for the Boston Globe. It now produces pulp, made from hardwoods sourced from both sides of the border, which is sold to other companies, around the world, to make paper. One of those companies is St. Croix Tissue, a new company that took over the paper mill portion of the plant. St. Croix makes paper napkins, paper towels, bathroom tissue, and facial tissue. The pulp mill  employs around 310 people, and the paper mill around 90. It is one of a half dozen or so major paper plants still active in Maine.
