The Enchanted Forest, at Old Forge, opened in 1956, and is now enhanced with a waterpark. The Enchanted Forest is not to be confused the Magic Forest, another Adirondack family attraction, which opened in 1963, at Lake George. Family theme park designer Arto Monaco was a consultant on the Enchanted Forest attraction. He was involved in the design of most of these attractions in the Adirondacks, including Santa’s Workshop, Storytown (now part of the Great Escape, south of the park), Frontier Town (gone), Gaslight Village (gone), and the Land of Makebelieve, which he built and operated on his own land, in Upper Jay (and is also now gone).
