The Fisher Hill Mine site, an old iron mine at the northern end of Mineville, was purchased by the state, and turned into the Moriah Shock Prison in 1989. Today around 200 minimum security male inmates are incarcerated there, mostly serving terms for drug offenses. As part of the shock program, sentences are reduced in place of an intensive rehabilitation program.
