This dingbat at 12618 Venice was built around 1963, when many other dingbats were going up around the city. Usually requiring at least two adjacent 25 foot wide lots, this first wave of densification replaced many one-story single family homes and duplexes with larger structures containing eight units or more, like this one, which replaced a smaller house once on this site. In this case, the exterior of the building has changed subtly over the past 57 years. One parking space has been turned into a garage; the torch-style lights on the façade have been replaced with carriage-style lights; the address numbers have been changed; the color palette contemporized; the thin posts in the carport holding up the second floor have been thickened; and security walls and gates have been installed.
