Built in 1907, this craftsman-style house is a rare remaining example of a single-family residence from the period, on what is now a strip of high to medium residential zoning, surrounded by five-story apartment buildings built in the 1980s and 1990s. When photographed in 2020, it was occupied by a contractor, who stored construction equipment in the front yard, perhaps a sign of what’s to come, as its continued existence in this form is likely short-lived. The house is located just west of Walgrove Avenue, which marks the line on Venice Boulevard between the Venice and Mar Vista neighborhoods, and where the address numbering system along the road changes, from five-digit addresses ascending, to four digit addresses descending towards the coast.
