Barack Obama’s legacy landscape is still forming. He has lived all over, including Honolulu, Jakarta, Los Angeles, and Boston, but the south side of Chicago is where he has established his roots. The Obamas have owned a house at 5046 S. Greenwood Ave, on the south side of Chicago, since 2005. It’s a 6,400 square foot home, on a double lot he once called his Kennebunkport. The streets around it have been restricted, and traffic rerouted for security purposes, a frequent occurrence with presidential homes, whether anyone is there or not. In 2015 it was announced that the Barack Obama Presidential Center will be located in Chicago, at Jackson Park, near the University of Chicago’s South Side campus. Construction is expected to be completed in 2020.
