Air Products opened this unique helium plant in the southwestern corner of Colorado in 2016. It was the first plant to produce helium from the carbon dioxide stream of the natural gas industry. Otherwise, most helium is produced from the few natural gas (methane) fields where helium is found in high enough concentrations. Though small, the plant can produce up to 230,000 cubic feet of helium per day, and around 84 million cubic feet per year, about 1.4% of the global demand for helium (around six billion cubic feet per year).
