With its once inexpensive land and proximity to New York City, many retailers, especially in the clothing industry, have warehouses here in the Harmon Cove office park. The office park was developed out of marshland by the Hartz Mountain Company in the early 1970s, and the company has left its mark on much of Secaucus. Secaucus is the only town surrounded by the Meadowlands. Development is principally in three areas—the Harmon Meadows corporate and retail area (where Hartz Mountain has its headquarters); a residential area where a population of 16,000 dwell; and the Harmon Cove office park area.
