A large rail yard running east/west spans the top of the peninsula of South Kearny, an industrialized fulcrum between Jersey City and Newark and a long ago paved-over marsh at the confluence of the Hackensack and Passaic. In the middle of the rail yard is the Meadowlands Maintenance Center, a major repair facility for NJ transit. CSX operates an intermodal yard here, moving containers between road and rail.
