Landfill 1D is south of Kearny Marsh, and marks the southwest corner of the Meadowlands. The shape of the landfill is triangular, hemmed-in as it is between highways and waterways. It is on the north shore of the Passaic River, a stretch known as the Harrison Reach. The east side of the landfill is the New Jersey Turnpike, at the point where the Turnpike splits into its eastern and western spurs as it runs north through the Meadowlands (the lanes converging again at the Vince Lombardi Service Area).
