The Standard Chlorine Site is a contaminated industrial site on the Hackensack that operated from 1916 to 1993, producing chemicals such as drain cleaning products, and mothballs. Contaminants on-site include hexavalent chromium, dioxin, chlorobenzene, and naphthalene. It was put on the federal Superfund list in 2003. Pools of water on site are of an unusual color. The former distillation tower is a landmark on the Hackensack.
