The tip of the peninsula of South Kearny is a no man’s land, divided in half. The east side, on the Hackensack, has a former waste treatment plant, with some intermodal rail shipping yards, and overgrowth. The west side, on the Passaic, is a former industrial site, currently being remediated. South of the tip of the peninsula is Newark Bay, a busy shipping area, beyond the Meadowlands.
