Bicycle Lake is used as a training airfield at Fort Irwin, the Army’s largest maneuver area. The lake has a helicopter port next to it, and is located near the main base area. Fort Irwin has more than a dozen airstrips and desert warfare camps and simulated villages in its forward areas, covering nearly a thousand square miles, where thousands of troops train daily. There are several other dry lakes within its boundary.
