Ivanpah is a large dry lake on the California side of the Nevada state line. Interstate 15 runs through it, on its way to Las Vegas. West of it are the towers and mirrors of the Ivanpah solar plant, one of the largest in the world. On its shore is a golf course resort, on a site which used to be a gas-fired power plant. In the middle of the lake is a fenced-off pond used to dump liquid wastes from the massive Molycorp rare earth mine, brought by pipeline from 13 miles away. At its northern end are the twin casinos at Primm, Nevada.
