Jean is a Nevada lakebed a couple of miles east of Interstate 15, 12 miles from the state line with California. It was used in 1962 by the artist Jean Tinguely for his Study for an End of the World No. 2, a sculpture/event that blew itself up, a reference to the atomic testing taking place on Yucca and Frenchman Lake, not too far away. Jean is also where the artist Michael Heizer made Rift 1, in 1968, the first of several ephemeral sculptures he has made on dry lake beds. Jean Lake is used by off roaders and car commercials now.
