Koehn is a five mile long dry lake at the north end of Antelope Valley. At its northern end are some evaporation ponds from a salt mining operation. The rail siding at the former townsite of Saltdale has since been used for explosives off loading. Near the northeast edge of the lake is the rocket test site operated for more than 50 years by the Reaction Research Society. Near the southern end is the Honda Motors company’s desert test track. In 2014, Virgin Galactic’s experimental spaceship disintegrated in the skies above the lake, dropping fragments over the area.
