Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex

Goldstone is one of the largest and most powerful space antenna sites in the nation. It is part of the Deep Space Network, which is composed of three installations located at roughly 120-degree intervals around the globe (with one in Madrid, Spain, and another in Canberra, Australia) for a continuous view of space. Part of NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab, several large steerable radio dishes are used passively to observe space phenomena including astroids, and actively, to communicate with deep space probes and satellites, and to image planets and other objects in space using radar. Goldstone has a few primary antenna sites: Echo Station, the administrative center for Goldstone; Venus Station, which includes one of several 34-meter antennas at Goldstone; and Mars Station, with a massive 70-meter steerable antenna.
