This dome, south of Baton Rouge, is one of the federal government’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve locations, where 73 million barrels of crude oil is kept in six caverns in the dome. There are also extensive natural gas storage facilities here, with seven natural gas cavities, some with a capacity greater then 12 million barrels.
