The Napoleonville dome, at Bayou Corne, is the site of a major sinkhole formation, where an underground storage cavity made by Texas Brine collapsed in 2012, forming a lake of more than 25 acres. One dramatic stage of the collapse was captured on video, and portions of the flooded forest can be seen moving sideways before being sucked down into the earth. Local residents remain evacuated, as the region is still unstable. There are more than 20 other storage cavities here that are still in use, operated by five companies, including Dow and Chevron, with a total capacity of around 70 million barrels.
