Currently the only solar plant outside the southwest that produces more than 50 megawatts is the Martin Next Generation Solar Energy Center, in Indiantown, Florida. Most of the plant makes electricity from natural gas. The solar array, constructed in 2005, uses reflective parabolic trough mirrors to heat brine and generate steam. It is capable of producing 75 megawatts. The facility was built by Florida Power and Light, which for many years owned the SEGS at Kramer Junction and Harper Lake, California, which were the two largest solar plants in the world for over a decade.
