Huntington Beach Production Unit

South of Bolsa Chica is the largest onshore cluster of oil extraction from the Huntington Oil Field. Located between the beach and upscale housing, this is the longest continuous stretch of oil wells in the region. Two rows of 200 wells each extend for over a mile along the Pacific Coast Highway, and converge at the southern end, at the Production Unit. 1.25 million barrels a year come through the Processing Unit from these wells, and from others accessed from a platform 1.3 miles offshore. The Production Unit, and the wells are operated by the Aera Energy company, which is owned by ExxonMobil and Shell. At the Production Unit, the oil is sold to Chevron, and conveyed by pipeline to refineries in the region.
