Hanford Nuclear Reservation

2603 Google Earth image.Several disposal cells and disposal caps have been constructed to isolate the various radioactive waste sites at Hanford, possibly the most radioactive of the five major Department of Energy nuclear processing plants and R&D laboratories in the United States. Originally built in secret to produce plutonium for the Manhattan Project, the installation manufactured nuclear materials used in bombs for decades after the war. Clean up continues.

2608 U.S. Ecology operates this radioactive waste disposal site at Hanford. It is one of only four active commercial radioactive waste sites in the nation, and accepts low-level waste from private companies, though it is located on the restricted grounds of the DOE's Hanford Nuclear reservation.
