This geometric pond is the cooling pond for the Martin Energy Center, a large natural gas-fueled power plant, operated by Florida Power and Light. The cooling pond is not connected to the lake directly, but can draw water from a canal at nearby Port Mayaca. What once was the largest solar power plant in the eastern USA is also located on site.
