Lewis Colburn, an artist from Cedar Falls, Iowa, was a resident in Wendover in 2007. Fluent in Russian, he worked with the Russian Inspection Station, a prefabricated (in Russia) guardhouse and residence that were used from 1988-2001 by groups of Russian weapons inspectors stationed at the Hercules Aerospace plant in Magna, Utah. The buildings were later removed from their original context and transported to Wendover for safekeeping. While in residence, Lewis Colburn researched the station’s background and helped restore the fully furnished structures. His work culminated in The Inspection Stations Project, which was exhibited in Syracuse, New York.
