Smudge Studio, a collaboration between New York-based Elizabeth Ellsworth and Jamie Kruse, spent time as official residents in Wendover in 2009, though they have been there before and since. They worked on a number of research-based projects exploring sites and moments in which the geologic and the human converge, including Siting the Geologic, and Below the Line. Smudge also explores this through their project Friends of the Pleistocene.
