Boron Becomes Critical

In November 2025, the USGS added boron to the official federal list of critical minerals. This exhibit looks at borax production, from Death Valley to the U.S. Borax/Rio Tinto mine in Boron, California, where most of the borates produced in the USA are extracted from the largest open pit in the state.
