A 2.6 million square foot cavity left from a limestone mining operation by the Tygart Limestone Company, Stone Mountain was used as a mushroom farm from the 1960s to 1980s. It was purchased in 2006 by a developer from California, who intended to turn it into an underground data center called Global Data. Within two years the business failed, and the property was auctioned off.
