LADWP Power: Electricity in Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is the largest municipal utility in the nation, and is culturally identified with the city that it serves. More famous for its water service, which began in earnest 100 years ago with the opening of the Los Angeles Aqueduct in November 1913, DWP electrical service accounts for far more of its budget. This program explores the distribution of electricity that is unique to this city, but in other ways typical of large urban areas.
