Receiving Station A is located at the DWPs Main Street Center, one of the early in-town DWP complexes, and one that is still central to the DWP. The yard, located at 1630 North Main Street, on the LA River, and with a rail spur connection, has several large engineering buildings, home for many of the department’s repair and fabrication activities. Receiving Station A, also known as St. John, is located at the back of the property, and was the original receiving station for the transmission line from Power Plant Number 1, along the Los Angeles Aqueduct in San Francisquito Canyon, which went online in 1917, the first large hydroelectric plant powering the city. Station A still serves as one of four connection points for the Haynes Generating Station in Long Beach.
