Receiving Station H, located in Hollywood, opened in 1953, on land purchased from the Goldwyn-Pickford movie studio. It was built to increase the available energy for a ten square mile region around Hollywood, including many studios, and the Miracle Mile area. It was initially fed by a 138,000 volt line coming to it underground from Receiving Station E, and another from Receiving Station D.
