The Sylmar Switching Station is located at the northern end of the San Fernando Valley, on the large utility area called the Van Norman Complex, which receives and processes the water from the LA Aqueduct, as well as electricity. The switching station is adjacent to the original Pacific Intertie Inverter Station, replaced a decade ago by a new one located across the highway. The station switches current for the Pacific Intertie, Castaic Power Plant, and Southern California Edison sources, and connects to Receiving Stations J and Rinaldi.
