The Owens River Gorge is a steep canyon through a volcanic landscape north of Bishop. There are four DWP hydroelectric plants, built in the late 1940s, that use aqueduct water descending through the gorge to generate electricity: the Upper, Middle, Lower, and Pleasant Valley Plant.
